Discover the beauty pick of the week: Disconnected Salon make-up and waxing artist Julia DeShong.

Julia just set up shop at the trendy Disconnected Salon in North Park and her appointment book is filling up fast. A natural-born artist, Julia recently arrived to San Diego from Central America, where she spent three months doing make-up for an independent film. When she wasn't doing make-up, Julia expressed herself by painting murals with children in Belize for a non-profit organization that she founded herself.

Julia's outgoing personality and leadership qualities make her more than just a typical make-up artist. While she can make your entire wedding party look fabulous, much of Julia's time these days is spent on community functions such as a recent fashion show at San Diego House of Blues, where REEF premiered a swimsuit line and Disconnected introduced their own line of mineral make-up called O, as well as prepping models for the catwalk at a Muse fashion show held at Confidential downtown. Julia's secret to runway make-up is using custom-made colors that are black-light activated.

Although Julia admits make-up is her passion and she can take you from business to burlesque in 30 minutes, she also has a flair for shaping eyebrows. And since Julia has been honing her craft since the young age of seventeen, while working for some pretty big make-up names like Channel, it's clear she's got all the right stuff to make you dazzle.
