East Village Urban Calm Day Spa

Published : 2/26/2008 by Nadia Ibanez

East Village is blooming in full view with loft living, contemporary boutiques, and fine and hassle-free dining. Just blocks away from the swift and speedy liveliness of the Gaslamp Quarter, East Village has quickly become the new "it place" for local urbanites to relax and play in luxury.

Urban Calm, founded and owned by Heidi Olden in December 2006, is a fresh and contemporary day spa dedicated to renewing the mind, body and spirit and also offers a soothing environment within a busy metropolitan city. From the plush furnishings to candlelit ambiance, pure and nourishing products, and revitalizing treatments, this retreat aims for nothing less than pure serenity.

The spa offers both modern and ancient techniques entwined in all treatments. Their specialties range from purifying facials and scrubs to seaweed wraps and mud wraps. A firm believer in aromatherapy, Olden's signature treatments always include fragrant therapy. The calming Chamomile Facial features a combination of chamomile, seaweed and aloe vera to calm and hydrate the skin and strengthen the skin's natural defenses. The invigorating Salt Scrub blends dead sea salts, cedar wood and peppermint oils to exfoliate the skin and encourage the body's circulation. The treatment concludes with a hydrosol mist and application of nourishing body oil, leaving the skin supple and opulent.

Urban Calm is also among the select few spas in San Diego that practices the ancient hair removal technique of threading, in which a cotton thread is twisted and rolls again the skin's surface, uprooting hair follicles without irritating the area. The practice is ideal for those with sensitive skin.
