The simple and universal language of mathematics serves as the inspiration for Detour Salon's 2011 collection titled simply, Geometric Shapes. It is a reaction to the new public consciousness that has emerged over the last three years.
We want to know that our choices are sound, that they represent our interests, and that the quality in which we invest begets longevity. We’re less flamboyant with the raw textures of styles seen in the early part of the decade. Geometry is the perfect method to create looks answering these needs as the techniques used are classics in hairdressing.
Discover three looks for fall that can be effortlessly created at home, with Bumble and Bumble products sold at Detour...
1. Triangle
Concave Layers keep the volume at the scalp to a minimum, while allowing for explosive body throughout the ends. A strong fringe modernizes the look with high drama. The color stays close to natural closer to the scalp, and transitions to shades 2-3 levels lighter through the ends with this ombre technique.
Get the Look: To achieve it, hair is slightly back-brushed in large sections and the color is finger worked into the back-brushed sections. The hair is styled for maximum triangular effect resulting in width and volume at the ends and tapering to a tighter shape at the scalp. Mist 1” sections of dry hair with Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray and wind around the barrel of a 1” curling iron. Keep the curl low and away from the scalp. When cool, apply Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme lightly to fingertips and rake through hair.
2. Round
A graduated bob sets the stage for Anna’s rounded look. This classic shape is extremely versatile as a fantastic blow dry can be altered with various iron work to add volume and movement.
Get the Look: Here, waves and curls are created with a flat iron. Begin by blow-drying with Bumble and Bumble Texture Creme and a large round brush for maximum volume. Mist large sections with Spray de Mode hairspray and twist around a large bob pin and press with a flat iron. When completely cool, ruffle hair between palms and finger rake hair into place. Set with Spray De Mode.
3. Square
The square shape is readily apparent with this one length bob. Cia’s natural straight texture and salt and pepper hair complement the strong lines beautifully. The personalization of this look happens easily as Cia’s fringe is carved to highlight dramatic eyes. The natural color is left intact with a simple application of a clear gloss.
Get the Look: To style, prep hair from scalp to ends with a thorough application of Bumble and Bumble’s Styling Lotion. Blow dry with a flat boar bristle brush, using small sections and keeping the hair low. Finish with Shine Spray and a flat iron where needed.
