New Years Resolution Solutions: Workaholic Workouts

Published : 12/29/2008 by Ryan Eisenacher

To discover the ultimate fitness advice for 2009 New Year's resolutions, we sat down with Sean Piazza - Fitness Director at Lava Sport and Fitness Point Loma at Liberty Station. If you're a workaholic in need of an innovative workout routine to ease seamlessly into your hectic schedule, listen up and take notes from the Lava expert.

Resolution 1: I haven't worked out regularly over the past three years due to an extremely busy work schedule. I've tried to get into a consistent regiment, but nothing seems to stick and I always feel too exhausted at the end of the work day. I want to make time for health this year and get into a dedicated fitness program.

Sean Piazza's Solution: Sounds like you're ready to make a commitment to your health - you just need a little help staying consistent and motivated. A majority of our clients are busy, corporate men and women working 60 to 70 hour weeks.

For this reason we open our club at 5am and offer a variety of Group X classes like power boxing, kickboxing, yoga, gravity and indoor cycling every day starting at 5:30am. We also offer total-body 45-minute gravity classes over the lunch hour for professionals needing the most effective group workout in the shortest amount of time. You'll stay stimulated and energized with the variety and intensity of our workouts that can burn over 700 calories per hour. And with our fully stocked locker rooms and complimentary towel service, you have no excuse not to visit Lava before or during work.

Consistency is the most important aspect to getting in shape. So, if work demands make it hard to commit to a class schedule, I suggest meeting a trainer two or three times a week to keep you focused and motivated. This is a great way to keep accountable and with someone else pushing you, you will meet your goals faster. One of the most efficient and effective workouts some of our trainers will utilize is the TRX suspension trainer. TRX is a bodyweight-based resistance band that helps individuals of all fitness levels to build strength, balance, flexibility and core stability.

Aside from working out at least three times a week, I tell all my clients to eat five to six small meals a day in order to speed up their metabolism and to maintain a positive attitude. Positive intentions breed positive results.
