With so many salons and studios for a person to have their hair done, the good old-fashioned classic barbershop is making its comeback.
More men are finding the idea of barbershops appealing because barbershops traditionally cater specifically to men. Guys like places where they can go and be free to be guys. Aside from getting a great cut, barbershops were, and are again, becoming hotspots for male social networking.
Camaraderie is a big reason for the increasing success of barbershops in this modern era. A man’s barber is his barber; but he is also his friend and sometimes his confidant. Many a secret has been told and kept, in between the clipper buzzes, while sitting in the seat discussing current events and sports statistics. Intimate nuggets of knowledge are often passed down and kicked back and forth between generations. One of the barbers from Dapper Jay’s Barber Shop describes it simply as, “A place for good conversation,” much like the funny barbershop experiences portrayed in Hollywood film.
In most cases, barbershops make for a more economical solution to proper grooming and hair care. Men like the fact that what may cost you an arm at a salon will be significantly cheaper at a good, old-fashioned barbershop. An average style that could run upwards of $40 at a professional salon, could run you as little as $15 at a professional barber. Not to mention barbers are usually more time-conscious and are able to deliver precision cuts quickly and efficiently without diminishing the quality of the service.
For many men, little beats the experience you have at a good barbershop with a barber accustomed to you. The conversation is good, the atmosphere is relaxing and fun, and there is a shared sense of brotherhood between barbers and customers that you don’t tend to find at salons. Plus shops have proven to be both time and cost-effective in the long run for those guys who put value in both. So if you’re looking for a shop to call your own, you likely don’t have to look too far.
