Burn: Top Ten San Diego Bootcamps

Posted On : 4/29/2011 by Danielle Spears & Michelle Guerin

Sorry to break it to you, but there isn’t just one right way to get in shape. We are all different, and we must put in the time to try new fitness trends and see what really works on our body, while also complementing our lifestyle.

If you’ve tried the best San Diego gyms without satisfaction, and are looking to spice up your workout routine with something new, we recommend you check out outdoor San Diego bootcamp classes. Led by expert local trainers, bootcamp enables you to get outside in the sunshine and tackle fitness from a new angle and fresh perspective. Although many classes take place in idyllic locations such as Balboa Park and Mission Bay, trust me that bootcamp is definitely no relaxing picnic in the park. The scenery is refreshing, the group atmosphere is motivating, and the one-on-one attention is painfully effective.

Discover the top ten San Diego bootcamp classes.

Wired Fitness Bootcamps

If you need a break from the standard gym routine, try Wired Fitness – a San Diego bootcamp that offers workouts without walls. Why stay stagnant on the treadmill when you can head outdoors for a dynamic workout in an ever-changing environment? During Wired Fitness Bootcamp classes, you must adjust swiftly to different terrain, inclines, declines, obstacles and climates, improving your body-mind connection and sharpening your balance, agility, strength and coordination. The best part? You also burn way more fat and calories by challenging yourself outdoors. Founder and Master Trainer Bryan Schuler specializes in functional training, core training, group training, circuit training, bodybuilding and more. Wired Fitness offers 60-minute classes in unique outdoor locations all across the county, from Mission Bay to Encinitas and La Mesa, and claims that you will lose between 400 – 1000 calories per class. Learn more and check out the schedule at wiredfitness.com.

Bootique Outdoor Fitness Classes for Women

Just watch the video success stories on the Bootique website if you’re not convinced that this workout will have a positive impact on your health, and your friendships. Satisfied clients will testify to Bootique’s main trainer, Jaylin, and her team as the utmost supportive, energetic, and motivating cheerleaders for their clients. Specifically designed for women, the program helps clients not only to feel healthier, but to see real results. Here women can get the personal attention and encouragement they need to feel good about their health regimen, including exercise and nutrition. Schedules run from Monday through Saturday, 6am to 6pm, and at various locations around San Diego. See for yourself at bootiquefitness.com.

San Diego Adventure Bootcamp

Are you the Wonder Woman of your life? The theme of San Diego Adventure Bootcamp is to help every woman get into super-hero shape and have the energy to be her best throughout the day. Their unique program is all about consistency, so the commitment to their daily routine is a must – that’s right, their routine is once a day, everyday for four weeks. They offer three times in the mornings and at varying locations to ensure that everyone has a boot camp spot close to home or work. Sign up and transform your body at sandiegoadventurebootcamp.com.

The San Diego Bootcamp

For busy professionals, squeezing in exercise during the week without sacrificing the quality of the work out can be a challenge.  The San Diego Bootcamp feels your pain – that’s why their specialists have constructed a 60-min training program (and a 45-min program for those go-getter fat blasters) in South Clairemont Park, just off of Clairemont Drive. These workouts are 2-3 times a week before work (they end by 7:15am). They also have a Saturday class for all levels, if working out that early isn’t exactly your cup of tea. The greatest asset of this program is that they have levels from beginning all the way to expert and incorporate drills as well as a multitude of props like medicine balls, resistance bands, dumbbells, ladders, and jump ropes. Check out this hard core program at thesandiegobootcamp.com.

VAVi Boot Camp

Heard of VAVi? You may associate the business with social sports leagues, however they also offer a kickass 6-week bootcamp at Mariner’s Point in Pacific Beach. Many participants have already discovered that the ocean in the background provides inspiration for them, while performing drills on the sand tones their muscles. Plus, being a member of VAVi’s bootcamp will earn you a special happy hour price on Miller Lite pints and pitchers at Tap Room (after a day of balanced eating, of course). VAVi bootcamps are offered only on Saturday mornings for you weekend warriors. Get more info at govavi.com/bootcamp.

SEALFIT Training Camp

CrossFit is sweeping the nation! No really, this innovative exercise regimen is taking traditional workout routines and turning them upside-down. Rather than taking out hours of the day lifting weights or doing cardio, CrossFit routines are simplified, focused, and intense formulas for working out all parts of the body. SEALFIT’s  training camps are not for casual participants, however. The workout is intense and will expect you to work hard and focus. They even have a special Kokoro camp which focuses on the mindset of a warrior: mentally and emotionally. Can you handle it? For the full schedule and more information, check out SEALFIT in San Diego.

San Diego Fit Camp

“Fitness Made Simple” is the motto of this basic bootcamp that offers specified training for all levels of fitness. The unique concept of this workout is main trainer Kevin LaCourte’s integration of TRX training in the outdoors. And what’s more is he offers classes all around San Diego on different days of the week. He also offers discounted outdoor personal training at $55 per individual session or $35 each for two people. The sessions are proposed to burn 500-700 calories! Check out more at sandiegofitcamp.net.

Bootcamp 619: The Original San Diego Boot Camp

Chris Keith’s program, based on the bootcamp training he received as a part of his Naval training, has been featured in 944 Magazine, San Diego Magazine, and Max Sports. Attending international health conferences that focus on fitness is just part of what goes into Chris’ plan for Bootcamp 619. His exercises utilized military techniques, but focuses on team building skills and building motivation. CrossFit training, martial arts, and muay thai are incorporated and Chris even has a mandatory grocery shopping session, where everyone goes to the store and gets a nutrition workshop. Look at Chris’ program at bootcamp619.com.

Barry’s Bootcamp

Though not an outdoor bootcamp, Barry’s is one of the best workouts you can get in San Diego. Lucky for us, this secret weapon workout of the Hollywood stars is also in Hillcrest. Known for its fun and social setting, Barry’s Bootcamp clients enter a warmly lit “hip-hop dance club” as expert instructors lead them through an intense one-hour workout. The program delivers a power-packed dose of fat burning cardio work on state-of-the-art treadmills, intermingled with strength training and up-to-date fitness techniques. All Barry’s Bootcamp classes are one hour, and each class includes 25 to 30 minutes of interval cardiovascular routines on the treadmills and 25-30 minutes of strength training using free weights and other equipment. Learn more at barrysbootcamp.com.
