When I'm planning a date in San Diego, I'm usually against the old dinner and a movie—that is, unless it's outside.
In the San Diego summertime, there are a few places to lay blanket on the grass and catch an old favorite film, but there's only one place to do it in style. Cinema Under the Stars provides the novelty of watching movies outside with the comfort of home, and the assurance no one will steal your seat. The venue’s Zero Gravity recliners, blankets, and heat lamps keep you comfortable while the lighted trees, whispering breeze and 40-inch Chinese Gong create an alluring ambiance. Curtained and cushioned cabanas are also available in the back for a little more privacy. The hi-def projector and sound system ensure a quality movie-watching experience.
Here's the plan: Stop by Cinema Under the Stars (4040 Goldfinch St. in Mission Hills, near Hillcrest) early to purchase your tickets and pick out your seats. Stroll down Goldfinch to grab dinner and drinks at the newly re-opened The Gathering before the show. Then cross Washington to The Lamplighter for karaoke and cocktails after. It's a complete night within one block. I'll be making these exact plans to catch Garden State in mid-August
Doors open at 6 p.m. and flicks begin at 8:30 p.m.
