Ok ladies, the holidays are here, and it's time to pop the question: what oh what to get your guy?
The good news is that men are relatively easy to please when it comes to gifts - but there are some that you should definitely avoid. Whether you've only been dating a few weeks or you're approaching the 3-year mark, here are some priceless gift-giving tips to keep in mind during the holidays in San Diego.
Gift-giving No-No's
Stuffed Animals
All across the world women continue to buy their men stuffed animals. Men never understand the point of these 'useless' items, whether they're dressed up in a Santa outfit, singing a tune or wearing his favorite player's jersey.
Photo Album or Scrapbook
Although this may seem like a sweet and creative gesture, most men lack the 'sentimentality' gene required to appreciate these gifts, and they tend to view them as scary and mushy.
Expensive Pen
To most men, a pen is a pen. It is a writing utensil. They do not see the point of spending more than $3 on one of these, whether it's platinum, gold or engraved, so think of something more creative.
Aftershave
Where did women get the idea that buying their men aftershave and/or shaving products is romantic? Would you be excited if your man bought you shaving cream or body lotion for your legs? Stay away from shaving products.
Boxers, Underwear or Socks
Once again, these everyday items are not so sexy. The only person that should be buying a man's underwear and socks is himself or, maybe, his mother. Buying your man's underwear or socks can make them feel awkward - stay out of maternal mode.
Good Gifts for Him
Useful Gadgets
The key word here is "useful." Men love gadgets and they love practical items they can use, such as a more advanced phone or PDA, a GPS, a hand-held business card scanner or an iPod shuffle.
Intimate Photos
Now this is a gift he'll remember. Wear some sexy lingerie and have some professional "Boudoir" photos taken of yourself a la his favorite pin-up girl (like Bad Kitty Photography). Print the best one in black and white and frame it. Let him have the rest.
Coupon book
Type up 10 or more different 'coupons' or certificates for him to redeem throughout the year; this is your chance to get really creative. Print out the coupons and bind them together in a little booklet. Example: This coupon is good for one (massage, home-cooked dinner, night of passion) - you get the idea.
Chrome or Silver Flask
Guys typically love this gift. It's unique, practical, and they look like a stud whipping it out in front of their buddies. If you've been with him for a while, think about having it subtly engraved.
Sports Tickets or Memorabilia
You really can't go wrong with tickets to a game or memorabilia for his favorite teams. You're sure to score cool girlfriend points for getting seats to a game in advance.
