Discover Dating: Top Ten Creative and Cheap Date Ideas

Published : 9/17/2008 by DeAnna Lorraine

San Diego's a fabulous place for dating and love. But with this economy, men are pinching their pennies a bit more than before. To relax your wallet without reducing romance, discover the top ten creative and affordable San Diego date ideas.

The Beach-it-Up Date
Pack up a picnic and set up camp at a spot like Mission Bay or the Coronado Silver Strand while the weather's still warm enough. Or if you've got the means, you can capture the same beach ambiance with the Beach Bar at the W Hotel.

The Casino Night Date
Take your date to play at some of the nearby casinos in San Diego. Check out the top ten San Diego casinos for ideas.

The '80s Flashback Date
Escape from 2008 for the night and take your date disco-bowling at East Village Tavern or adult skate night at Skateworld.

The Sports Night Date
Enjoy our San Diego Chargers up close and personal and take your date to a game. If you can't see the players in the flesh, watch them at one of the top ten upscale San Diego sports bars and enjoy their football specials.

The Night Cruise Date
Take your date on a cruise around the bay while the fireworks are still running; try the Hornblower night cruise, or the ship adjacent to the Catamaran Resort at Mission Bay. It's only $5 to ride the double-decker ship and it's got a bar, live music and a rooftop deck.

The Oldies Drive-in Date
Change it up and take your date to a drive-in movie theater. Check out the South Bay Drive In on Coronado Avenue: open 7 days a week, all year round. Or, switch it up and opt for the Dive In at the Pearl hotel: movies by the pool every Wednesday night. (pictured)

The Champagne Brunch Date
Start your day off right over bottomless mimosas and breakfast at Gringos in Pacific Beach, or Restaurant at The Pearl in Point Loma.

The Wine Lover's Date
Take advantage of some of the romantic wine bars that San Diego has to offer such as Tango Wine Company in Little Italy and 3rd Corner in Ocean Beach.

The Kiss-the-Chef date
Heat things up while you cook your own entrees at hot spots like Fleming's Prime Steak House in La Jolla or, on the thriftier side, Turf Supper Club in Golden Hill.

The Karaoke Date
See how far your star power goes and try karaoke at The Lamplighter or The Office (formerly Scolari's Office) both in the North Park area.
