Ten Tips to Increase Romantic Market Value

Posted On : 3/9/2009 by DeAnna Lorraine

We all have a “Romantic Market Value,” which is essentially how we stock up in terms of overall desirability in the eyes of the opposite sex. Assess your own “RMV” this spring, and take it up a few notches with these must-try tips from San Diego Dating Coach DeAnna Lorraine.

Assess your current “RMV
Make a list of all the things you want in your perfect man or woman. Then make a list of all the things you currently have to offer someone, and see how you match up. Think of at least 5 things you can do to improve, and commit to doing them!

Create a Sexy Affirmation
In order to be truly desirable, you’ve got to act like you’re desirable and exude that energy. So get that sexy confidence glowing by creating an affirmation for yourself, such as “I am the hottest woman (or man) in San Diego and anyone would be lucky to have me!” Repeat three times a day for an instant lift in your attitude that will attract your ideal match.

Giving Yourself a Makeover
This is the best way to quickly kick up your confidence and RMV a few notches. Splurge and get your nails done, your hair professionally cut and styled, and a treatment at Serenity Spa and Salon. First impressions count, so why not invest in making a ‘wow’ first impression that gets you asked out again and again?

Do a Closet Overhaul
Update your style like the pros and throw out anything you haven’t worn in 8 months or longer. Hit up Fashion Valley (they just got a new Forever 21!) for some new tops, dresses and accessories, and put together a few ‘date-ready’ outfits so you feel your most fabulous as you take on the San Diego dating scene.

Fill your Life with Exciting Activities
Make that life of yours one that anyone would want to be involved in by filling it with regular activities like wine tasting Tuesdays at Wine Steals, country dancing nights at In Cahoots, Karaoke nights at the Lamplighter, Dive-in Movies at The Pearl, or touring Broadway plays at the Civic Theatre (see RENT this March!).

Expand your Social Network
With your hot makeover, start meeting new people and filling up those Friday and Saturday nights by getting out and frequenting popular new lounges and restaurants in San Diego, like the recently revamped and reopened Hard Rock Hotel bars, coming-soon (again) KIN Lounge at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, and brand new Vela Restaurant at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.

Learn Some New Skills
Make yourself more interesting by learning some new skills or taking up classes. Try taking surfing or windsurfing lessons in PB, salsa dancing classes at Café Sevilla, scuba diving in Mission Beach or golf lessons at Balboa Park.

Get Fit!
Feel better and look better by getting more fit in time for swimsuit season. Hit your local gym more often or work out in the sunny outdoors by jogging along the Mission Beach boardwalk or Coronado strand, or joining one of the many recreational softball teams that develop right about now when the days get sunnier. Check VAVi Sport and Social Club for outdoor beach sports this spring.

Get Ahead in your Career
Make your job as desirable as possible finding ways to set goals and get ahead. In a city made up of so many young professionals, there are many business networking groups and events that are filled with fun, driven people such as The Schmooze San Diego and 6Degrees San Diego groups. See event photos here.

Get Educated!
Pick up books from one of the great libraries in San Diego, take up a foreign language class or other classes of interest at a community college like Mesa. Smart is sexy, and the more you feed your brain the more you have to contribute to conversations.
