The Best Place to Bring Your Crush

Published : 1/2/2007 by Michelle Guerin

Want to impress your epicurious arm candy with a bustling Gaslamp-vibe, but lack the patience and funds? Hillcrest hears your cry and has delivered the terminally hip solution. Crush, the perfect blend of intimacy and class with an edgy flair. The ambiance balances fine wine, chic art and gourmet cuisine with jazz beats, bold energy and subtle lighting.

Don't worry novice, Crush allows no ostentation when it comes to wine. Freely peruse the selection of boutique and esoteric wineries as well as international vineyards to quench your date's thirst. Crush boasts fifty wines by the glass, ranging in price from $5 to $12 (compare that to your Gaslamp bar tab!) Whether you prefer red or white, you two will look fabulously chic sipping your pick in the striking azure atmosphere. Check it out for yourself—an oversized mirror hangs amidst the deep blue. And although conversation may have been rocky with your first crush, the atmosphere in Crush beams with communicative potential.

Crush adds a spicy kick to familiar American favorites with ethnic flavors and prep methods. The small plates served tapas-style are gourmet-to-the-tee, but still function as funky, fun and completely non-intimidating. Just in case your mental image is thrusting you down Market Street, remember– no Gaslamp, no lines, no drama, all Hillcrest.

Crush

ha ha, I laughed out loud when I read this because I definitely brought my date here the other night and it was our first date. It is really a great place to eat if you are not sure how the night is going to go. There are lots of easy appetizers and quick things to get and wine is always a bonus to take the edge off a first date! I live nearby and so I do eat here regularly and would advise people to make reservations if it is a busier night. too funny...

Best Place ever!

Wow, my date definitely brought me here and we had a blast! The wine was seductively good, the company appeared more attractive with every sip. The small plates were very satisfying and ideally prepared. There was definitely no drama! I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to fall in love...my new fiance and I are getting married next month (and he proposed to me here). I said, "Yes"!
