Untold Secrets of Female Body Language

Published : 3/3/2008 by Loxie Gant

The San Diego dating scene can appear a romantic maze of misinterpretation and missed chances if you have yet to discover the untold secrets of female body language.

Many men strike up conversations with women without knowing how to tell if they are interested in return. Because this potential misjudgment could lead to major miscommunication, the San Diego Dating Guru is here to let you know women are actually easier to read than you may think. It's all in the shoulders.

I've spent many nights at San Diego clubs studying female body language, specifically the body language of a woman as she is approached by an interested male. Without fail, the basic body language is centralized in the placement and direction of her shoulders. I'm sure you've always heard to pay attention to eye contact, and although eye placement and contact are important - there is an even easier way to determine if she is actually interested in you. The eyes may be the window to the soul, but her shoulders are telling you more than you know.

Let's use a hypothetical situation to start. Say you see a cute blond ordering a drink at the bar and you decide to walk up and say something to make your presence known. Here is the part you need to pay attention to. Does she actually turn to face you or merely turn her head? If she merely turns her head, take that as a no and politely end the interaction. If she actually turns her body to square her shoulders up with yours, you are as good as in. Nine times out of ten, if the woman is interested she will turn her torso to face you straight on.

When a woman is approached by a male in a public space, the immediate reaction is to accept or deny the advance. Unintentionally, a woman's posture can tell you whether your advance is welcomed or not. If her shoulders are slouched forward or slightly shrugged upwards, that is the body closing itself off. If her posture is upright and shoulder are back, than you should maintain contact and conversation.

If you are in a group conversation and there is an individual woman you are interested in, turn your shoulders square in her direction and see what happens in return. Does she acknowledge your advance or avoid it? If she alters her body language towards you, you can interpret that as an invitation to direct conversation.
