Did you get snubbed from the guest list at the Grammy’s? Did your ticket get lost in the mail for the MTV Video Music Awards?
Don’t fret; the San Diego Music Awards’ tour bus will make its one and only stop on September 10, 2009 to award the best in San Diego music, and you’re invited.
Now in its 19th year, San Diego Music Awards (SDMA), which is open to the public at a small $25-75 cost, will host big names like Jason Mraz, Switchfoot and Slightly Stoopid, honor legendary band The Zeros, and try to bolster the notoriety of such underground bands as the Wavves, Anya Marina and the Delta Spirit. The SDMAs also awards new up-and-coming bands like The Beaters and The New Archaic as a way of introducing them to a larger local audience.
SDMAs honor local bands that have impressed the community with their talent and originality. However, the award show also graciously supports a charity cause. All of the proceeds from the 2008 SDMAs went to the Taylor Guitars in Schools Foundation, which provides children with a guitar and teaches them the skills to play it while they are in elementary school, and there will be a similarly honorable cause for the 2009 SDMAs.
