The Art of Fashion at Timken Museum

As soon as the fall season hits, we are obsessed with all things fashion. We drool over fierce magazine spreads and daydream about the transformation from runway to every day. Fashion is more than a retail industry; it’s a channel of self-expression, it’s an art form.

The Timken Museum of Art believes in the power of fashion, and hosts an annual celebration of couture culture in which emerging designers create modern looks inspired by historic masterpieces. This year the 4th Annual Art of Fashion event takes place on Saturday, September 24 within the museum in Balboa Park.

Honorary Chair Zandra Rhodes and Co-chairs Joye Blount and Jessie J. Knight, Jr. have collaborated with emerging graduate designers from the Fashion Careers College to produce 15 fashion-forward pieces inspired by classic paintings. There are a variety of ways to experience the artwork during the official unveiling event. The VIP Preview Hour is from 5:30 to 6:30pm, and invites guests to mingle with designers and models while sipping cocktails, tasting hors d’oeuvres, enjoying live Parisian gypsy jazz music, and watching the art come to life on the interactive runway. General admission opens at 6:30pm, continuing the cocktail service, live music, and art debut. Five top fashions from the event will continue to be shown at the museum from October1 – 31.

Art of Fashion is one of the Timken Museum of Art’s main fundraising events, and proceeds will benefit the museum’s art education programs. VIP tickets are $250, and general admission is priced at $100. For more information and to reserve tickets, call 619.239.5548 x100 or visit timkenmuseum.org.
