2011 Miss Cougar Contest in Del Mar

Unleash the cougars! Don’t worry, this is not an invasion from members of the cat family, but rather from mature vixens of the female clan.

If you haven’t been keeping up on your pop culture, it is definitely time you learned about “the cougar” and its emergence into the social scene. Here’s the 411: A cougar is a term for a woman in her thirties or forties who is on the hunt for younger men. She can be found prowling anywhere from trendy bars to swanky nightclubs looking for the twenty-something man who is young, energetic, and has that willing-to-do-anything attitude. Think Ashton and Demi or Samantha on Sex and the City.

These mature, femme fatales can be found all over San Diego, however, Del Mar is a particularly thriving habitat for these modern day “Mrs. Robinson’s.” This upscale beach town is home to numerous chic restaurants and lounges, and with an average of 105 males for every 100 females, the hunting is good! Did I mention, ABC’s hit TV show “Cougar Town” uses Del Mar’s beach at 15th Street in its opening credits?

Since Del Mar seems to be the ultimate cougar spot, what better place to hold the 2011 Miss Cougar Contest than at the Del Mar Racetrack. Now in its third year, the competition will name its winner on July 29 at the Cougar II Handicap, which is the racetrack’s longest distance race of the summer.

Online voting starts on the 21st, so make sure to notify your social circle to vote and vote often, as the finalists will enjoy a “Day at Del Mar Package” valued at $500. This package includes a table and clubhouse admission for 4, VIP passes to the Paddock Tour, and the winner will present the winning trophy on the track.
