The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, along with media partner 91X Radio, has compiled a surprisingly respectable lineup for this year’s 4 O’clock Fridays concert series at the Del Mar Racetrack.
By flanking the season with the best shows - local favorite Pinback on Friday, August 1 and Steel Pulse taking over on Friday, August 29 - and filling the gap with proven 4 O'Clock Fridays veterans, the DMTC guarantees to fill your Fridays for the entire season.
With parking and general admission ticket prices, the event isn’t technically free, but you’re paying just a fraction of the ticket price these bands usually command. Unless otherwise noted, the concerts will take place in Plaza del Mexico in the infield, after the last race. The event is standing room only; arrive at the Del Mar Racetrack early if you want to get anywhere close to the stage.
The dress is casual, but as the Del Mar cougar set tends to treat it more like a fashion show, you might want to turn it up a notch if you want to keep up. Even though the event is called 4 O’Clock Fridays, 4pm is just the post time. The music starts around 7pm, so there’s no need to take off early from the office if you just want to catch the show.
