If you think about it, we’re completely sabotaging our own fitness-focused resolutions by partying hard on New Year’s Eve. After two bottles of champagne and far-too-many shots to remember in between, how do you expect to wake up at 9am and start the New Year off with a brisk jog and trip to the gym? Ya, I’m thinking you’re probably going to head straight to a New Year’s Day buffet...
If you want to start the New Year with strides toward your weight-loss resolution, why not spend NYE burning calories, rather than packing them in? This year, New Year’s Eve falls on a Saturday, so the YMCA is hosting the 41st Annual Resolution Run.
The annual Resolution Run is praised for its family and pet-friendly course that travels throughout the beautiful Balboa Park. Opt for a 5K-run or one-mile fun walk with your loved ones in honor of a fresh start to the New Year. Every year YMCA celebrates Fitness Champions who are nominated by their peers. This year’s Fitness Champions are Annette Rankin and Alfred Lopez – two locals who have shown a strong commitment to mental and physical fitness by volunteering at the YMCA and exercising regularly.
New this year is an exciting 20-item raffle with prizes totaling over $2,000, donated by many of your favorite San Diego businesses. Following the Resolution Run, prizes will be awarded to the first man, woman, child and dog to cross the finish line.
The YMCA’s 41st Annual Resolution Run takes place Saturday, December 31st with the run beginning at 12:15pm and the raffle taking place at approximately 1:15pm. The run is free, but there is a suggested donation of $10-25 per person for entry. All proceeds will directly fund the Downtown YMCA programs which benefit the low-income, at-risk youth in the Downtown San Diego community. Learn more at downtown.ymca.org.
