A-List Exclusive at The Athenaeum

The Athenaeum Music and Arts Library is not your average San Diego Library. Step out of the book, put your reading glasses aside and join the Athenaeum for live music, inspiring speakers, and interactive art shows. Celebrate the San Diego art community with an air of elegance and a touch of romance at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library.

This summer, the Athenaeum introduces the third season of exclusive A List summer events, launching June 28^th with Body/Art. The A List: Body/Art showcases the human body as a diverse art form. From the portrait subject to the canvas, this unique event silhouettes the human body’s innate interaction with art.

The A List: Body/Art features rising artists Alida Cervantes and Ginger Placek. In a collaborative display, Cervantes and Placek illustrate the fluidity of artistic interpretation through a vibrant look at the human body.

Alida Cervantes depicts the depth of personal and cultural identity in her internationally acclaimed portraits. A series of portraits, ranging from San Diego blond to Aztec exotic, reflects her personal struggle growing up a California woman with deep Mexican roots. The Cervantes collection will be on display at the Athenaeum for 6 additional weeks.

Ginger Placek’s eclectic approach to art explores fashion, graffiti, and varying canvas creativity. Although Placek is fairly new to the art scene, she is already molding her own niche by avoiding contemporary clichés and venturing into the risqué.

Midwest blues by Podunk Nowhere will also stimulate the crowd. Podunk Nowhere is a new acoustic rock sound emerging from the Midwest and currently making a buzz at San Diego venues Winston’s and House of Blues. Jive your body to this new beat with a complimentary Karl Strauss beer or cocktail.

The Athenaeum combines organic art and music on the rise for one of a kind entertainment in San Diego. If you’re an Athenaeum A List member, enjoy this event for free. Body/Art is also open to the general public for $10.
