Ali Fedotowsky & Roberto Martinez Split

Much of America watched as Roberto Martinez proposed to Ali Fedotowsky during the sixth season of The Bachelorette back in 2009. After accepting his seaside proposal, Ali and Robert were the couple about town in San Diego, publicizing their romantic dates and appearing on several shows. It appeared that all was going well for the pair, as their engagement lasted nearly 18 months. Fans patiently awaited the wedding day, with Ali citing excuses such as conflicting schedules and a kickboxing injury as delays.

However, it turns out there was trouble in paradise and a wedding is not in the works after all. In fact, a rep for the duo confirmed their split to Us Magazine earlier today. An insider admitted to Us that the couple would often engage in huge fights and that “their relationship has been tumultuous since day one.” While Ali and Roberto put on a good show, it’s important to remember that in some ways it was, in fact, a paid performance.

Ali and Roberto both made handsome sums of money from personal appearances, including Jimmy Kimmel Live and Good Morning America, but it seems that their “it” factor has undoubtedly died down recently. After all, several new bachelorettes have already been in the public eye and captured more media attention. Could it be that the split may have something to do with money no longer flowing in from appearances and possible endorsements? You be the judge.

Another hard-hitting question: does this split really come as a surprise? Honestly, with only two couples from the Bachelor franchise still going strong, it would be a bigger surprise if they actually had gotten married.
