Hands United for Children presents An Evening of Art and Music at Turquoise Coffee, on Saturday, November 15th, with proceeds benefiting "Children of Burkina Faso," sponsoring the education of children in the region of Saponé.

Head to Turquoise Coffee in Pacific Beach on Saturday, November 15 from 6-10pm for a charity event in honor of education in Africa.

An Evening of Art and Music will feature dinner and refreshments with live African music performed by SeneAfrica, and a silent auction closing at 8pm. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children 2-12 years-old. Purchase tickets online here, or at Turquoise.

Hands United for Children (HUFC) is a non profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of orphans and abandoned children in countries ravaged by war, famine, and poverty. The vision HUFC is the development of alliances and collaborations with existing organizations to improve the lives of those they serve. The HUFC 2008-2009 project is "Children of Burkina Faso." Burkina Faso in Africa is the 28th poorest country in the world, with a current president, Blaise Compaoré running a fragile democracy. Life expectancy is about 50 years-old, leaving 9% of children orphans. Schooling is free but not compulsory, and only about 29% of Burkina’s primary school-age children receive a basic education. Class sizes range from 70 to 120 students, and the literacy rate is very low, with 30% boys and %15 girls over 15 unable to read. Learn more here.

With the goal to raise $19,000 to support 60 sponsored children, school backpacks, and one-year lunches for children in the African region of Saponé, HUFC is hosting a series of events. An Evening of Art and Music at Turquoise Coffee is the first fundraising event, and is an important opportunity for San Diegans to get involved in the international cause.
