Relax – this isn’t a ploy to make you sign up for another marathon on your daunting New Year’s resolution list. This is something with a little less sweat and more imagination. Taking a cue from both performance art and endurance experiments, ArtHatch has announced their second annual Art-A-Thon, starting on Friday, January 11.
This 24-hour Art-A-Thon has rounded up 25 artists from around San Diego to make and create all things beautiful, non-stop. Kicking off at 6pm on Friday, January 11 and concluding at 6pm on Saturday, January 12, the artists will paint, draw, photograph, etc. with the help of live music and public support. All are invited to watch artists create their work live or online via Livestream.
Following the Art-A-Thon, a reception will be held from 6pm to 10pm on Saturday evening featuring celebratory beers from Stone Brewery.
Of course, the marathon will not be completed in vain. These committed artists are collecting pledges in preparation for the big day. Proceeds from both the pledges and art sales will go to support ArtHatch’s free art education program for local teens. Since 2010, ArtHatch has been providing art supplies, mentorships and exhibition space to teen artists. The program brings local and international artists together with the students for a unique opportunity in art education.
Prizes will be awarded to the artist who raises the most, as well as to the artist who makes it through the full 24 hours. The finished pieces will be added to the ArtHatch gallery space and auctioned off until February 2. All artwork will start bidding at $100.
ArtHatch & Distinction Gallery is located at 317 E Grand Avenue in Escondido. Support these local artists and the ArtHatch teen program by donating online at arthatch.org.
