Hot Haunt: Art After Death Spooks OMA

Posted On : 10/18/2011 by Amy Ebersole

As the end of October continues to approach at a bloodcurdling speed, Halloween haunting is officially in full scream. But San Diegans beware, as the date for the Oceanside Museum of Art’s spine-thrilling Art After Death event is already creeping near.

OMA's popular event series Art After Dark is embracing its dark side for a special Halloween-inspired edition. From 7 to 10pm on Friday, October 28th, ghoulish guests should gather up their broomsticks and wake up their bats to participate in the chilling costume contest. With prizes such as $1,000 in dance lessons at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio, Haunted Hotel tickets, or a pair of tickets to the 2012 Art After Dark museum event series, guests are encouraged, but not required, to cloak themselves in their most creative of costumes. Or come design your own at the mask making station.

This 21 and older event features a variety of terrifyingly terrific talent such dueling graffiti artists, mad doctors, a flash mob of zombies, video artist Aaron Benedict Sison, and DJ Noel. Five exhibitions will be open for viewing, as well as OMA’s first digital 3D mapping animation shown on the façade of the museum.  Impressive brews, specialty wines, organic coffee, and frighteningly tasty food from The Fish Joint and Tony Pepperoni Pizzeria will also be available.

So whether an art admirer, zombie-lover, or costume craver, don’t be afraid to call 760.435.3721 for ticketless reservations, as this event may sell out. Admission is $20 for OMA members and $25 for nonmembers.

If interested in getting in the Halloween spirit and unable to make it to this particular spooktacular event, visit OMA from October 15th to 30th to explore concepts such as mortality, inner darkness, and death at the current exhibition Memento Mori: Remember Your Mortality.
