With San Diego’s music scene growing exponentially and competitively, local musicians don’t overlook an opportunity to display their talents in front of an enthusiastic audience. Each performance means another pair of ears hearing the band’s sounds, and you never know who you might end up playing next to.
As America’s Cup World Series crawls closer to San Diego’s seas November 12-20th, San Diego bands are aptly warming up to compete. One of the largest international sporting competitions is encouraging local talent to enter through a Battle of the Bands, with winners determined through online voting. The four winning bands with the most votes will open for concerts each night of America’s Cup, playing alongside such names as Diplo, The Donkeys, and K. Flay.
To enter, bands must first register online and submit an audio MP3 of a song. Once they share their audio file by 11pm on November 6th, online voters can cast their selection of who they want to hear at this year’s America’s Cup. All winners will be announced online on November 10th at SignOnSanDiego.com. Contestants must be 21 years of age or older, and voting will be strictly monitored.
The America’s Cup World Series challenges the best sailors in the world in an aggressive competition of fleet racing skills. The nine days of boat rivalry takes over our shores, as thousands of fans join to experience the thrill on the water, get pumped up through live music, have access to sailing stars, and be a part of the interactive displays in a festival at America’s Cup Race Village on Harbor Drive. From indie pop to dance music, the outdoor sounds will be filled, as well as the stomachs of attendees from the food festival that includes a beer and wine garden.
Ample amounts of spectator activities will entertain the scene throughout the span of the races, including a Racing Simulator, as guests sail on their own match race, video-game style. Fans will watch the racing live, getting close to the best sailors in the world with first-hand reports from the sailing stars. The AC Village opens from November 12-15th from 10am to 6pm, and November 16-20th from 10am to 10pm. Entertainment highlights include local talent Little Hurricane, The Silent Comedy, The Donkeys and Hyena, along with the winners from Battle of the Bands.
