Busk the Casbah Before the San Diego Music Awards

Published : 9/13/2007 by Craig Slike

San Diego musician Adam Gimble (Rookie Card, Cover Me Bad) is putting together a fundraiser at the Casbah for the San Diego Music Awards, which raises money for music education in schools. Gimble and friends are celebrating the 25th anniversary of Rock the Casbah by doing Clash covers. Five or six bands will be covering songs by the Clash throughout the evening, starting at 9pm on Saturday, September 15th.

Just before the Clash broke up, they did a tour "busking*" outside of other people's shows all over England. In honor of this, Gimble will be organizing the “Lil' Strummer Allstar Orchestra” to show up and crash a few shows (including their own) Friday and Saturday night. Bring your most interesting acoustic instruments: mandolin, fiddle, oboe, harmonica, or just the voice you were given and sing along to “London Calling”, “I Fought The Law”, “Rock the Casbah”, and “Should I Stay Or Should I Go”.

“They're all pretty simple," Gimble says. "We're not worried about getting every little thing right. Just a bunch of people singing & playing!”

Friday night caroling includes Claire De Lune's coffee shop and playing outside of the San Diego Music Awards acoustic show.

On Saturday the 15th:

2:00pm Earthdance at Balboa Park
Possibly the Belmont Park Action Sports Fest with MXPX
3:30pm La Mesa Summer Concert
5:00pm Sessions Fest in Golden Hill
8:30pm The Casbah (probably the most likely to actually happen)

*Busking: To play music or perform entertainment in a public place, usually while soliciting money.
