The hustle and bustle of San Diego is without a doubt both exciting and stimulating, but sometimes our hearts pine for a relaxing rural getaway free of endless traffic and rowdy tourists. Enter Julian, a quaint mountain town located 60 miles northeast of San Diego, where you can take it back to the basics with the fresh scent of pines and oaks, clean air, balmy blue skies, and good ol’ apple pie!
Come Saturday April 9th, Julian will host the annual Taste of Julian & Art Walk, a self-guided culinary tour that lets you explore all the quaint community has to offer.
A town known for its rich history as the location of San Diego’s only gold rush, Julian has since become a charming destination for those who just want to get away. The Taste of Julian event offers an incentive to do so by providing visitors with a chance to explore more than 10 of the best local restaurants and wineries from 1 to 5pm. Since the tour is self-guided, you get to decide for yourself where you want to enjoy local wine, savory appetizers, entrées, and signature desserts. As you make your way through the delightful town, make sure to check out the Art Walk, where local and regional artists will be displaying their original works.
While in Julian, take advantage of the beautiful scenery by enjoying a hike, or use this opportunity to visit some of the historic sites throughout the city. Antique shops will call your name, as the apple orchards enchant your senses. Whether you choose to come for a weekend and stay at a local bed and breakfast or opt for a simple day trip, you are sure to return to your city life feeling refreshed and renewed.
Taste of Julian & Art Walk: Tickets to this event cost $20 in advance and can be purchased at julianmerchants.org. Tickets will also be available for $25 the day of the event at Julian Town Hall, located at 2129 Main Street. Proceeds from this event will be used to protect and further enhance the natural beauty and history of Julian. Free parking (what a thought!) will be available at the lot on 4th St., between B and C St.
