There’s something about the PEANUTS that elicits a strong holiday spirit. From the Snoopy balloon at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to watching A Charlie Brown Christmas replay for the umpteenth time, there is no such thing as a winter season without a little guy named Charlie to brighten it up.
Chuck Jones Gallery will make magic happen this weekend as they bring in PEANUTS animation artist Larry Leichliter to both San Diego and Costa Mesa locations for a rare guest appearance and art unveiling.
The galleries will showcase original production art from “It’s Magic, Charlie Brown!” Larry Leichliter was one of the animators who worked on this 1981 film and will share his experience with guests. The reception and exhibition at the galleries will also feature limited edition cel art and rare sold-out cel art editions from many of the most famous PEANUTS television specials of the last 40 years.
Larry Leichliter has enjoyed a lengthy career in animation beginning in the ‘60s, working for Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera, as well as with Irv Spence of Tom & Jerry. He has also directed several animation shows for Nickelodeon including Sponge Bob SquarePants and Hey, Arnold!
Meet Larry Leichliter at the San Diego Chuck Jones Gallery (232 Fifth Ave.) from 5pm to 8pm on December 1 and at the Costa Mesa location (3321 Hyland Ave.) from 12:30pm to 3pm on December 2. Chuck Jones is the only gallery in Orange and San Diego County devoted to the art of the animated film.
