City Ballet Presents Bravo! Balanchine

The legendary George Balanchine has remained an inspiration and acted as a teacher for many ballet companies seeking to mimic his musicality and styling. The City Ballet of San Diego will be taking on three of the 20th century choreographer’s works in a revitalizing performance of Bravo! Balanchine.

From Friday, March 2nd through Sunday, March 4th at Spreckels Theatre, the City Ballet presents an all-Balanchine program comprised of three of his greatest works. "Who Cares?" features musical excerpts from George Gershwin and portrays the exuberance of America and in particular, Manhattan. The second piece “Agon” uses the original music by Igor Stravinsky from 1957, and features pairs, trios and quartets interacting with no set story line. The final piece of the evening, "Donizetti Variations" utilizes musical excerpts from the opera Don Sebastian by Gaetano Donizetti. This jubilant piece was originally created for New York City Ballet’s celebration of the 100th anniversary of Italy’s unification.

Dance and Desserts: Through Allegro’s On-Stage Champagne Reception, guests can enjoy Bravo! Balanchine in the best center orchestra seats, followed by an on-stage champagne and dessert reception. Presented by the City Ballet Allegro, this exclusive event is only for the Saturday, March 3rd evening performance. For tickets to the On-Stage Champagne Reception, visit cityballet.org. Guests are also invited to gain a better appreciation for Balanchine’s work with an informative lecture prior to each performance.

Tickets range from $29-$59. The approximate run time is two hours and 30 minutes with two 15-minute intermissions. To order tickets and find out more information, visit cityballet.org.
