Most people remember two main things from the musical "Annie": a spunky orphan with curly red hair and the song "Tomorrow". Although these are prominent elements, they barely scrape the surface of this favorite musical.
The Broadway classic "Annie" comes to The San Diego Civic Theater this January for a short run - only appearing January 9 - 11, 2009.
A little history lesson: The character Annie is taken from a comic strip that started in 1924 called "Little Orphan Annie". Only later was it placed to music and put on Broadway stages and film screens. The original Little Orphan Annie brought hope, humor, and light during the Great Depression. This musical takes place during the depression where the economic problems are blamed on past president Herbert Hoover (sounds a little too familiar, huh?).
This January, after the hustle and bustle of the 2008 holidays (and our own depressed back accounts), a little hope for tomorrow may be just what we need. "Annie" is a story about overcoming your own odds and maintaining a positive attitude in light of your current situations, whether you have curly red hair or not.
This musical teaches you that Maybe you have A Hard Knock Life, but there is always Tomorrow. So just remember - You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile. Discover the true meaning for yourself.
