Classics Philharmonics Presents Culture Crossroads at Balboa Theatre

Published : 3/11/2009 by DiscoverSD

The first day of spring is always a harmonious one — ushering the blossoming emergence of youth into a new bright season.

Join Classics Philharmonic in harmoniously celebrating the start of spring during the Culture Crossroads Family Concert on Sunday, March 22, 2009. Presented by Classics 4 Kids, celebrate The Persian Carpet theme of this event — enjoying life's diversity and the blending of cultures through classical music.

Envision traveling to Persia and the Middle East just in time for “Norouz,” a cultural celebration of the first day of spring, immersed in the presence of joyous children, folk musicians and dancers, costumes, and traditional instruments. Save the airfare and attend the real thing right here in San Diego at the newly restored Balboa Theatre in benefit of Classics 4 Kids.

The Classics Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Dana Mambourg Zimbric, is a professional ensemble comprised of top orchestral musicians hand-selected from throughout Southern California. The Classics Philharmonic Orchestra performs a variety of musical repertoire, ranging from traditional symphonic works, to new music, to symphonic pops, to jazz, and everything in-between. The Philharmonic has been performing together since 1994 as the orchestra-in-residence for Classics 4 Kids.

Classics 4 Kids is a non-profit organization devoted to increasing lifelong participation in music and the arts, stimulating creativity and imagination, and improving academic achievement for children through professional orchestra concerts and educational programs designed to engage and inspire young audiences.

This inspiring local organization orchestrates 3 productions a year, each with 9 performances. While the 8 main performances of each production are presented during the day for school children around the San Diego community, the final production is always open to the public, spreading music in tune with education to a wider reach.

Bring your family and encourage young audiences to experience and learn the story of The Persian Carpet and how music and culture unites people of all diversities together during the Culture Crossroads performance Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 2:00PM at Balboa Theatre.
