Hands down, Culture & Cocktails at San Diego Museum of Art is the absolute best way for young(er) locals to ease into a more mature museum setting. A very pleasant medium where museum culture meets party lifestyle, San Diego Museum of Art invites you for an evening of art appreciation enhanced with spirits, music and a great crowd.
Culture & Cocktails returns to San Diego Museum of Art at Balboa Park on Thursday, October 29, 2009. DiscoverSD.com proudly sponsors this October’s event, and we invite you to join us in experiencing art in a whole new way.
The August edition of C&C introduced us to a moving series of powerful photos from Richard Avedon. Guests sipped specialty cocktails, nibbled on small bites, enjoyed DJ beats, and toured Richard Avedon’s Portraits of Power. View event photos.
On Thursday, October 29 head to the San Diego Museum of Art from 6 – 9pm for an exclusive first glance at new exhibit: American Artists from the Russian Empire. This display presents the work of artists who came from Russia to the United States just before or immediately after World War II. The exhibition explores ethnic origins of many of the most well-known artists working in America in the postwar period, among them Louise Nevelson, Jules Olitsky, Mark Rothko, and Ben Shahn, and, through the exhibition of their work, attests to the contributions these emigrants made to the enrichment of American culture.
DJ beats fill the picturesque museum, exotic Firestarter Vodka cocktails flow, artworks dazzle, and museum visitors glow at this popular sundown series. Make your mark and paint your own refrigerator magnet inspired by Mark Rothko's No. 7 (orange and chocolate), or wear your thoughts on your sleeve in our collage nametag activity in which you can combine text and images to create a wearable work of art. Come clad as your favorite Russian for this convergence of cultures and you may just start a new revolution.
DiscoverSD.com is a proud sponsor of Culture & Cocktails: American Artists from the Russian Empire. Join us on Thursday, October 29 from 6 – 9pm. This event is free for members and $15 for nonmembers. Buy your tickets now.
Insider Tip: Urban Renewal Projekt will be spinning at the official C&C after party at The Prado from 9:30 – 11pm. Cocktails and DJs after-hours in Balboa Park? Yes please.
