East Village Opening Day Block Party

On Opening Day, hardcore baseball fans start marching their parade towards Petco Park. It’s also the day that San Diegans can revisit the spirit of baseball season: joining together and rooting for our Padres.

 For this season’s opener on Thursday, April 5th, the Padres will be hosting the Dodgers. Before the game kicks off at 3:35pm, all fans are invited to the East Village Opening Day Block Party, a free, all-day outdoor event complete with live music, food, drinks and a slew of games all sponsored by car2go, San Diego's first all electric car sharing service. From 11:00am-6pm, the East Village Association will be closing down J Street between 7th and 10th Ave. for fans to partake in pre- and post- Padres game entertainment, including beats by DJ Kaotik and live local bands.

Get your grub on with local fare from East Village restaurant booths and mobile stations in Food Truck Alley. Nearby, the Stone Brewery Co. Beer Garden will host the 21 and up with $5 beers all day. Bonus, the Stone Brewery Co. Beer Truck will also be on site to keep the lines down. Fans can expect a few other local craft brews serving their drinks, as well.

All proceeds from the event support the mission of the nonprofit East Village Association, which promotes East Village businesses by establishing the community as San Diego’s livable urban village. 

Last year, an estimated 25,000 people flooded the streets of East Village in a display of community enthusiasm.
