While spreading random acts of kindness is looked highly upon, especially as seasons turn from summer sunshine to fall gloom, spreading random acts of art can produce equal or increased amounts of good sensations. We may think we know San Diego pretty well, but an opportunity is arising to show us where unique art can display in places we’ve walked past a million times but never looked twice at.
On September 3rd, from 1pm to 6pm, East Village Random Acts of Art provides a free, unique tour where local artists can gather and show off their work in East Village, connecting with restaurants, businesses and venues. Visitors will have the opportunity to see, experience, and interact with local artists who are matched with different East Village businesses, making for an interactive experience of exploring all the East Village corners and gems that might normally go unseen.
Participating venues, artists, and special offers include Dragon’s Den with artists Darlene de la Paz, Jaime Bernal, and Jamie Wittert. Hotel Solamar will host participating artists Tina Christiansen, David Vila, and Suzanne Fries, along with complimentary wine. At Lotus Thai, LJ Oakes will showcase work with 15% off the food with the Art San Diego Badge. At Mission Brewery, view the works from Roy de Vries and take $1 off pints. Head into Salon Identity to view work from artist Katie O’Brien and receive free refreshments and special coupons for salon and spa services.
If you’re anything like me and can’t look at a piece of work without imagining how it would look on your own walls, the Random Acts of Art will also be available for purchase, and for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds benefit the nonprofit East Village Association, for inner-community growth. Local artists will be around to talk about their work and present it in a non-pretentious environment friendly for all ages and welcoming enough for everyone to walk through.
In addition to the cryptic places that art is installed, many local restaurants, bars and businesses will be offering up special deals throughout the showcase. Everything from happy hours to promotional edibles are up for grabs during this event. For more information on Random Acts of Art, visit the East Village Association. Win a gift card to your favorite East Village Restaurant by taking a picture next to one of the murals and posting it on the Random Acts Facebook page. Watch this video for more information:
