On Saturday, August 25th, local independent radio station FM 94/9 and Southern Comfort present the Southern Comfort Music Experience, a free concert in San Diego for the 21-and-up crowd. Cult favorite rock band, The Flaming Lips will headline the Downtown San Diego event.

Calling this San Diego event a concert really doesn't do it justice. It's more of a miniature music festival, complete with schwag booths, portable toilets, food venders and booze, glorious booze--obviously, anything containing Southern Comfort.

The Flaming Lips concerts are famous for outrageous oddities. You can expect to see audience members dancing on stage in Santa, Alien, and Mascot costumes, confetti cannons, various psychedelic visual and auditory stimuli. If you're lucky, The Flaming Lips might even bust out the Zorb and go for a walk on top of the crowd. Backing up The Flaming Lips will be the Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club, DJ Z-trip, Galactic, and The Delta Spirit.

The recently reunited Scarlet Symphony, who have referred to themselves as "A Super Funk Nightmare", will close the SoCo and Lime (local) Stage. They are supported by the audaciously cool Truckee Brothers, The Knee Highs, Stranger, and the Drowning Men.

Look for the huge portable music venue in parking lot D1/D2 right next to Petco Park--you can't miss it. No ticket is needed for the event, but don't forget your ID. Please don't drink and drive--drunkenly ride the Trolley instead.
