Free Winter Concerts at Seaport Village

Posted On : 1/10/2012 by Kseniya Bublikova

Seaport Village is a hidden gem in our downtown’s urban landscape, home to quaint shops and restaurants along San Diego Harbor. This year, Seaport Village is taking advantage of our warm winter season and hosting free, outdoor family-friendly entertainment on the water’s edge. Locals can look forward to a free Sunday concert series and loads of whale watching fun.

The winter concert series will take place every Sunday, starting January 15th and ending March 18th. First up, The Catillacs– a rockabilly band specializing in vintage rock and smooth soul from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. If you miss them on opening day, you will have another chance to catch them on the final day as they will also be closing the concert series with a bang. More featured bands include Midnight Heat, NOVA, Breez’n, Windy City, Indian Joe & The Chiefs and Ballad Mongers. All shows will take place from 1 to 4pm in the East Gazebo.

In addition, Big Bay Whale Days will be taking place all throughout the month of January. If you’ve ever wanted to participate in whale watching or bay cruises, this is your chance to indulge in these activities at discounted rates during the gray whale migration season. Bay front businesses will provide discounts on restaurants, retailers, hotels and waterfront museums as part of this month-long special.

Back again this year is the Whale Festival on January 21st from 11am til 3pm. This free community event draws nearly 5,000 people each year and will feature tons of entertainment for the whole family such as live music, sea creatures small and large, interactive displays, free face painting, a kids art mural project and the unique chance to learn more about these majestic and mysterious creatures.

Insider Tip: Finishing up the winter season at Seaport Village, the Spring Busker Festival will take place the weekend of March 24th and Sun March 25th from 12 to 5pm. This free event, celebrating the art of street performance, is the only one of its kind in Southern California. From sword-swallowers to spellbinding juggler performances, professionals will come from all around the country to take part in this festival.
