With the nation engrossed in reality dance competitions such as "Dancing with the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance," we are left wondering if dance is about to have a resurgence in mainstream culture and which type of dance will find itself on top.
The popularity of dance styles seems to fluctuate in San Diego. In the mid-nineties Swing was on the rise and soon after Salsa was all the rage. Both scenes are alive and well but do not enjoy anywhere near the popularity they once had.
In an effort to promote Modern and Ballet as the next big thing, The Butterworth Dance Company in Point Loma is offering an entire day of free classes Saturday, January 5th.
The Butterworth Dance Company is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating an extensive repertoire of modern dance. They expose their audience to modern dance through community outreach, educational lectures and demonstrations as well as artist collaborations and live performances. They strive to connect the viewer's perception of art with their everyday experiences.
Whether you're just looking to try something new or want to find out if modern dance is for you, this is the event to help you find out.
The Butterworth Dance Company is in Liberty Station (NTC Promenade) at 2650 Truxtun Rd., Bldg. 175 San Diego, CA 92106
