Fresh Sound: Oliver Lake at SUSHI

A little Jazz spice makes an evening very nice. You can experience some cool saxophone chatter at the finale of the Fresh Sound Series, hosted by SUSHI Contemporary Performance and Visual Arts.


The San Diego-based nonprofit organization has provided a venue for exceptional local, national and international artists since 1980. SUSHI’s core programs include dance, performance art, spoken word, music, theatre, film, video, and visual art. 


The Fresh Sound series, themed Roots and Reeds, has been an ongoing set of concerts that will culminate on December 17th with a performance by Oliver Lake. This New York master saxophonist / composer / poet has a resume littered with crowning achievements: Working with the Brooklyn Philharmonic; arranging for pop star Bjork; performing with hip-hop artist Mos Def; receiving the Jazz Impact Award; and a recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship. 


The Oliver Lake Fresh Sounds concert gets underway at 8 pm on Friday, December 17th with a brief history (roots) of Lake’s instrument and how it works (reeds). For more information and tickets, please visit sushiart.org.
