Friday Alternative: Pool at Jolt’n Joe’s

Posted On : 11/18/2010 by Christina Printz

There are nights when you want to be alone, nights when you want to hang out with just a few of your closest friends, but there are also those select nights when you want to bring everyone you know out for a fun night of drinking and games. If you want one of those nights, then a great place to go is Jolt n’ Joes. With more venues integrating a gaming aspect such as bowling, pool or video games, it’s no surprise that spots like Jolt n’ Joes is becoming ever-popular as an alternative Friday night out from the usual nightclub scene. Its large size, for one, means that you can see everyone and mingle freely without getting lost in the crowd. You might, however, risk getting just plain lost. At a grand 15,600 square-feet, you aren’t likely to find this much space in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter anywhere else.

Large spaces equate to lots of room for play. And play, indeed, is Jolt’n Joes’ specialty. With dozens of Brunswick Gold Crown and tournament pool tables, ping-pong tables, shuffle boards and dart boards, there are endless distractions to keep you from getting bored. If you prefer drinking to playing, then head on upstairs to the beach bar where the tiki shack and sand combination makes this bar atypical from the ones you might be used to seeing in the Gaslamp, or you can just grab a quick drink downstairs in the video bar. Add the county’s largest number of high definition and plasma televisions for sports and after-hours music into the mix, and you have quite the combination for a night of games, whether it be watching them or playing them.

There is no need to feel overwhelmed by Jolt’n Joe’s size. If you would prefer a more intimate space, then stake out the V.I.P. Lounge, where you can still enjoy playing pool, watching a game on the big screen, or just hanging out with your friends but with the added luxury of a more private space and large leather couches. Because Jolt’n Joe’s can keep you entertained for hours, you are bound to get hungry. Aside from the standard bar fare, there is a downstairs restaurant offering upscale dining, under the guidance of premiere Chef Manolo Tourne, with lots of open space and television screens so that you never miss a minute of a game, no matter where you are standing or sitting.

For great food and great fun, Jolt’n Joes is a one-stop shop. With two locations, one in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter and the other in La Mesa, your needs for drinks and games are fulfilled. It’s the perfect spot for meeting up with friends after work or on the weekends for primetime game watching or game playing. For more information, visit Joltnjoes.com.
