“Water-wise” is the defining term of The San Diego Fine Art Society’s new group exhibit H2O: The Art of Conservation happening May 6 – November 12, 2011.
The reputable organization has teamed up with El Cajon’s ingenious Water Conservation Garden to showcase 14 of San Diego’s most gifted earth-conscious installation artists. The exhibition will portray natural and sustainable pieces that are aesthetically beautiful and adaptable to the greater San Diego community.
The Water Conservation Garden is an impeccably water-wise venue. Spreading over five acres, the garden promotes preservation with a multitude of unique solutions, highlighting native plants and vegetables, backyard layouts, and even irrigation ideas. The garden hosts numerous “water smart” workshops throughout the year that provide irreplaceable tips to the public about how to efficiently and sustainably manage horticulture. Some especially family-friendly events you can catch throughout the year include Mother’s Day Brunch, a compost workshop, and a Valentine’s Day cooking class.
A unique aspect of the exhibit is how the artists make use of non-traditional recycled materials. Preview photos show cement barrels in picturesque ponds, innovative patio designs, and decorative desertscapes with colorful rocks, cacti, and trees. Guests will be able to take home their favorite designs priced specially for the event.
San Diego artists featured in the H2O: The Art of Conservation exhibition include Dia Bassett, Bociek & Bociek, Lea de Wit, Rebecca Goodman, Matthew Herbert, Terri Hughes-Oelrich, Miki Iwasaki, Benjamin Lavender, Omar Lopez, Collective Magpie, Adam John Manley, Christopher Puzio, Fritze Urquhart, and Ruth Wallen. The event will be curated by the Green Public Art Consultancy, a company that is passionate about spreading green themes to the public through art.
H20 exhibition admission is free with a suggested donation. For more information, contact the Water Conservation Garden at 619.660.0614 ext. 10, or email info@thegarden.org. Check out the event online at greenpublicart.com.
