If you've moved to San Diego from a colder climate, you're probably missing good hockey. If you've lived here your entire life, you are probably missing average hockey. Of course, both of these groups have their differences, but there's one thing they can come together on: they both love to watch guys crash into each other, and they both appreciate a good Zamboni.
San Diego hockey might not be the same as The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers going to war against the Michigan Wolverines with a hatred burning at the intensity of a thousand suns, but it's still worthwhile, and the San Diego State University Club Ice Hockey Team is the best organized hockey in town. Tickets are only five bucks, and the games are held at The Croc Center, where the only seats available are right on top of the action.
If you feel that last year's folding of the San Diego Gulls franchise has robbed you of the exhilaration only found during a third period power play -- or the opportunity to go out and feel overtly Canadian -- go check out the SDSU Aztecs and hug the glass. An athlete in his early twenties playing for the love of the game might get his face crushed in front of you, and it will be better, and cheaper, than a movie.
