Holiday Wonderland Brings Spirit of the Season to Del Mar

Published : 11/16/2008 by Michelle Guerin

In a dynamic city like San Diego, there is no better place to celebrate the holidays than the charming, picturesque coastal city of Del Mar.

The Del Mar Village Association presents Holiday Wonderland on Sunday December 7th from 1-6pm - an annual family holiday event that celebrates the spirit of the season along the coast of Del Mar. Get your pre-sale tickets here.

Bring your friends and family to jump start the holiday season from 1-5pm on Sunday, December 7 between 11th and 15th Streets on both sides of Camino Del Mar.

Holiday Wonderland brings everything we love about the holidays to the beach, such as Santa Claus himself, horse and carriage rides, a holiday gift bazaar, strolling carolers, arts and crafts activities, a children's fun zone with rock climbing, train rides, carnival games, face painting and more, and the popular cakewalk. If you're working up an appetite, stop by your favorite 20 Del Mar restaurants for tastes of the season, available with tickets until 5pm.

Some of the participating restaurants in Del Mar include KITCHEN 1540, Epazote Oceanview Steakhouse, Jake's Del Mar, Poseidon, and Pacifica Del Mar.

Starting at 5pm, the outdoor amphitheatre at L'Auberge Del Mar will present the annual Del Mar Tree Lighting ceremony. As the stunning 35 foot tree is adorned in bright lights, guests will enjoy holiday music from Michael Tiernan and complimentary refreshments provided by KITCHEN 1540.

The Del Mar Village Association (DMVA) hosted Holiday Wonderland event is symbolic for the coastal community of Del Mar. "Holiday Wonderland is very much a home grown community event involving our downtown businesses, restaurants and the many residents who volunteer at this event," said DMVA president Walt Beerle. "It's a wonderful way to celebrate the season as well as support the revitalization and preservation of downtown historic districts. Many of our businesses have been here for years. They're not only our neighbors, but our friends."

Don't miss this signature San Diego holiday event on Sunday, December 7th from 1-5pm, and continuing from 5-6pm with the brilliant tree lighting ceremony. Holiday Wonderland tickets are $20 pre-sale and $25 the day of the event. Tickets include 4-10 food items or activities, and a portion of ticket sales will benefit local Del Mar schools. More information and event tickets are available at DelMarMainStreet.com. Tickets are also available in Del Mar at Union Bank and Willis Allen Real Estate.
