When your weeknight routine starts revolving around catching the top talent-based reality TV shows, from Dancing with the Stars to American Idol, you can assert that you have an obsession with people performing. Coming out of the TV and into downtown San Diego is the Ballroom with a Twist Winter Pops showcase, dancing and singing live in Copley Symphony Hall on January 20th and 21st.
Watching the cha-cha rattle on the television screen is one thing, but getting up close and live beneath the fringe, sequins, and booming sounds of Rumba bass is a whole other ballgame. Ballroom with a Twist brings a frenzy of sizzling dance moves from professional international dancers spanning the genres of Samba, Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, and Jive. As if the jaw-dropping dancers aren’t enough to keep you ogling at smooth moves and high kicks, several of our favorite American Idol finalists will also be joining the bill as they sing vocals for the night. The production is said to give audiences chills between the varieties of live music providing a soundtrack to the evening.
Star Watch: It’s the who’s who of the dance and singing world, joining together for an evening of grace, athleticism, and passion. Dancing with the Stars hot-shot couple Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts host both nights of Ballroom with a Twist and are joined by vocals from LaKisha Jones, David Hernandez, Gina Glocksen, and Michael Sarver. The show is conceived and choreographed by Dancing with the Stars’ Emmy-nominated Louis van Amstel and conducted by Matthew Garbutt. With impeccable moves and beautiful, plunging costumes, it’s a can’t-miss event of the New Year.
Tickets are priced from $20-$85 and can be purchased online at sandiegosymphony.org. Watch the video below for an exclusive preview of the toe-tapping night.
