The Hotel Café is one of the few venues in LA that has built a "can't miss" reputation.
Translation: You really don't even have to look at the schedule, just walk in and you'll see a strong act on stage.
Specializing in the young singer-songwriter genre, the venue has grown in reputation along with the up and comers it took chances on. Riding this wave of success they've sent out ambassadors of music on a "good will" tour... if you will.
This concert will remind you of Garden State - when Natalie Portman forces Zach Braff to listen to a song she has playing on her iPOD by saying "Listen to this song. It'll change your life." Not that The Shin's are coming to play, but a few tracks past on the Soundtrack is "Blue Eyes" by The Cary Brothers - and they will be present, along with Ingrid Michaelson whose songs are featured on both "Grey's Anatomy" and Old Navy commercials. Local boy Greg Laswell rounds out the show with deep emotion and sweeping melodies that are impossible not to connect with.
More good news: This show takes place at the Belly Up Tavern (the BUT) in Solana Beach, one of the best venues for sound on the west coast. The first act takes the stage at 8pm on Thursday March 6, 2008, but you can always get there early for dinner next door. It's a 21+ show, $17 in advance, $15 at the door.
