Invisible Children Charity Event at Onyx Room in Gaslamp

The Invisible Children Foundation joins forces with 6 Degrees of Transformation to present the Rescue of Joseph Kony’s Child Soldiers, a fundraiser to raise awareness of this humanitarian crisis – on Thursday, March 26, 2009 starting 6pm at the Onyx Room in downtown San Diego. Party for a cause this Thursday night in Gaslamp!

The Cause: For over 20 years, children in Uganda have been living in constant fear of being abducted into Africa’s merciless rebel forces. The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) headed by notorious war criminal, Joseph Kony, is responsible for abducting and brainwashing children as young as five years old to be mindless mass murderers. Over two decades of silent horror and corruption were finally shattered in 2003, when three young filmmakers from our very own Southern California journeyed to Africa in search of a story.

What they found was devastating. Children crammed into desolate buildings in desperate attempts to escape rebel abductions; some were lucky enough to survive the night, but others were kidnapped into armies of more than a hundred child soldiers and trained to take innocent lives in brutal violence.

The three filmmakers, Jason Russell, Bobby Bailey, and Laren Poole, knew that it was their duty tell the tale of the voiceless young. Their documentary “Invisible Children” did more than tug at heartstrings. It started a global revolution to aid and protect the children of Uganda. Now, with an army of their own, the founders of this humanitarian movement are continuing their quest to free the invisible generation of Uganda.

The Change: Now it’s in our hands to fight for a cause that has been kept silent for too long. This Thursday, the Invisible Children Foundation is joining forces with 6 Degrees of Transformation to present the Rescue of Joseph Kony’s Child Soldiers, a fundraiser to raise awareness of this humanitarian crisis.
