Ion Theatre's Production of Punks Sizzles in Mission Valley

Published : 11/15/2007 by Kelli Enger

Prepare to get punk'd at Ion Theatre's latest sizzling production: Punks.

Punks promises to be a seductive, heart-stopping, identity-exploding play from the ever-edgy Ion Theater's second season. The production is showing now through December 15, 2007 at "The Lab" in the Academy of Performing Arts in Mission Valley.

Punks is inspired by Jean Genet's erotically-charged work The Maids, brought to the stage by Claudio Raygoza, and directed by Glenn Paris. The story follows a pair of male hustlers in New York who find themselves employed by a mysterious ex-movie actor. Their mysterious boss has them enact film-noir-like scenes that range from innocent to vengeful, while he watches.

What starts out as a game becomes a dark and twisted reality.

Punks promises to touch on such social issues as class struggle, the stigma associated with prostitution, and obsession with youth and celebrity culture. The play stars top San Diego actors Steve Lone, Markuz Rodriguez, and Robin Christ.

Tickets range from $10 to $27.50 and can be purchased online at IonTheatre.com. Show times are 8pm Thursday through Saturday and 7pm on Sundays. There will not be a show on Thanksgiving.

Enjoy a night out on the town with this cutting edge performance from a slew of the best and brightest San Diego's producers, directors, and actors. Leave the kids at home: Punks is for mature audiences only, due to full nudity, strong language, and drug use.
