Discover a 2 ½-acre slice of Zen paradise in the middle of Balboa Park: the Japanese Friendship Garden. With a history that dates back to the origins of the Park itself—the 1915 Panama-California Exposition—this hidden jewel offers a transcendental experience at every turn with its lush manicured landscapes, rock gardens, pavilions, winding pathways, koi pond, and waterfall, as well as exhibits of Bonsai and other arts and crafts from Japan.

The Tea Pavilion located at the Garden’s entrance is absolutely the best casual dining spot in the Park, featuring sushi, rice bowls, noodle dishes, miso soup, salads, and teas.
