It seems like just yesterday we were watching Kim Kardashian parade down the aisle in her extravagant Vera Wang wedding dress. Oh wait, it pretty much was. After only several months of dating, a $10 million wedding and a mere 72 days of marriage, Kim and Kris Humphries are calling it quits.
Kim filed for divorce this morning, October 31st, and told Us Weekly, “I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”
According to Us Weekly, the main problem resided in the fact that Kris was out of work due to the NBA lockout and was partying it up while Kim remained busy with her reality show and other money-making ventures.
What is certain is the fact that both Kim and Kris have profited from this whole affair. The couple made $18 million off their wedding through multiple media partnerships, making that a profit of $8 million after wedding costs. These partnerships included a whopping $15 million paycheck for their 4-hour wedding special on E! and $2.5 million for exclusive photo’s with People Magazine.
Speaking of millions, 4.4 million people tuned in to watch Kim Kardashian’s wedding on TV. That’s the kind of publicity that a Kardashian could only dream of. Not to mention, think of all the interviews and paid appearances that will ensue because of the divorce. Cha-Ching!
To me, all these millions seem more shocking than the fact that Kim and Kris are getting divorced only 2 months after their wedding. In fact, it makes me wonder if the whole wedding was even “real” to begin with. In the end, while Kim may not have turned out to be “wife” material: it would appear that she is a competent, if a tad unconventional, businesswoman.
