Cirque du Soleil’s wild show KOOZA is a brilliant blend of two circus traditions – acrobatic performance and the art of clowning – and opens at the Del Mar Fairground February 25, 2010.
Famous for creating whimsical realms driven by imagination and ruled by the unknown, Cirque du Soleil spans five continents with a series of international illusions. From Zumanity to "O" and The Beatles: About Love, Cirque du Soleil intertwines the fantastical within the everyday – and now San Diego is ready to welcome KOOZA, the latest trip from the visionaries of sensory innovation.
A return to the origins of Cirque du Soleil, KOOZA tells The Innocent's story, through a theatrical mix of acrobatics and clowning.
The Innocent is a melancholy loner in search of his place in the world. During the show, The Innocent’s self-searching journey brings him into contact with such unforgettable comic characters as the King, the Trickster, the Pickpocket, the Obnoxious Tourist and his Bad Dog. While the story is compelling, the other-worldly acts are what make this show irresistibly majestic.
A few of our favorite memorable moments in KOOZA are:
Contortion: Young performers work in harmony and unison to bring a new approach to the art of contortionism. What sets this number apart is the artists’ innovation in movements and positions and the team-work ability to create tableaux of sculptural beauty.
Wheel of Death: The 1,600-pound Wheel of Death rotates at heart-stopping speeds and is powered only by the two artists who leap and counter-rotate in a death-defying display of fearless acrobatics. (pictured)
Charivari: The 19 artists of the House Troupe burst into action with acrobatics, rapid-fire costume changes and rebounds from three miniature trampolines set in the stage. Highlights include human pyramids and bodies flying through the air.
The sights and sounds of KOOZA are a must-see for all local enthusiasts of arts and culture. Don’t miss this adrenaline rush of acrobatics as it hits the Grand Chapiteau at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, running February - March, 2010. For KOOZA photos, videos, music and tickets, visit cirquedusoleil.com.
