Five Fridays in February? Say it five times fast my friends, it's leap year.
What is leap year you may ask? Warning, scientific content ahead: "In the Gregorian calendar, the current standard calendar in most of the world, most years that are divisible by 4 are leap years. In a leap year, the month of February has 29 days instead of 28. Adding an extra day to the calendar every four years compensates for the fact that a solar year is almost 6 hours longer than 365 days." Got it? Don't worry - all you need to know is it only comes around every 4 years so it's another great excuse to party.
It's a good idea to offset your debauchery with a little charity and culture every now and then. Leap for a Change has conveniently gathered them all together under one roof on Leap Day, Feb 29, 2008 from 6-9pm at the Rubber Rose Gallery in North Park. The Rubber Rose is that place you stumbled into during Ray at Night thinking was an art gallery, then noticed the sculptures were a little more sensual than usual, but in a tasteful way.
Leap for a Change is a silent art auction, featuring approximately 20 local artists benefiting the Foundation for Change, a charitable organization supporting grass roots movements for progressive social change in the San Diego/Tijuana region. These silent art auctions are really the best places to pick up original pieces by local artists for insane deals. Some bids start as low as $25. Eclipse Chocolates will also be onsite to temp you with some decadent tastes.
