Local Sound: January Concert Calendar



Coming out of the holiday fanfare can get pretty depressing. The chaos has died down and you’re left with a bag of presents to return and a new cavity from all that cake. The good news is that the month of January is here to recharge our batteries and get us back into a normal routine of work, play, extra play, repeat. First things first - mark your calendar for one of the many awesome concerts headed to town. From Sum 41 to Muse and Social Distortion, it’s a month of music you won’t want to miss. Sum 41 at House of Blues – January 8

The boys of Sum 41 ruled the punk rock scene of the early 2000s, and they aren’t finished owning the stage just yet. In September, the band announced their Does This Look Infected? 10th Anniversary Tour to celebrate the album's release in 2002. They’ll be joined by iamdynamite and Hunter Valentine. 6:30pm; $20+ Buy tickets

 

Social Distortion at House of Blues – January 15

While the band’s January 4th and 5th dates at the House of Blues have already sold out, fans can still snag tickets to this mid-month concert. After 34 years of performing, Social Distortion continues to tour and record music for their loyal followers. The band is currently working on an eighth studio album, set to be released later in 2013. 7pm; $35+ Buy tickets

 

Muse at Valley View Casino Center – January 21

No band compares to the legendary Muse. These guys have cut out their signature sound and style while continually evolving. Their sixth studio album The 2nd Law was released in October, propelling the band on another international tour. Ben Folds Five at House of Blues – January 27

While the band has been around since 1993, Ben Folds Five just recently reunited to record their latest The Sound of the Life of the Mind, released in September. It’s their fourth studio album and the group’s first release since 1999’s The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner. 7pm; $50+ Buy tickets

 

Ozomatli at Belly Up – January 25-26

The vibrant blend of hip hop, salsa, samba, funk and more make up the sounds of Ozomatli, who have been taking listeners on a tour around the world since 1995. While poised as cultural ambassadors passionate about social justice, the band has managed to picked up a few Grammy awards throughiut the years.  9pm; $30 Buy tickets
