Messed Up Mondays at The Blarney Stone in Clairemont

Published : 8/2/2007 by Craig Slike

Monday is the new Friday at the Blarney Stone Pub in Clairemont. It’s difficult to pack a bar at the beginning of the week, but the Blarney Stone consistently goes off.

Featuring such local mainstays as Allison Gill and Fever Crotch (Sean O’Donnell of Reeve Oliver and Matt Gorney of Bad Credit), patrons definitely getting their money’s worth (no cover). While they’re interested in providing quality music, these performers know the crowd is also there for the entertainment—meaning instrumentation often takes a backseat to humor.

Gill plays the first set around 9:30pm, followed by the Crotch. Both sets consist mostly of covers with a few brilliant originals mixed in. Feel free to sing along at the top of your lungs—everyone else does. Most nights, Dallas Mclaughlin (Bad Credit, FM 94.9) will contribute with some old-school rap, and the Bumble Bee Tuna guy might get on a chair and invade some poor unsuspecting newbie’s personal space (if you’re lucky).

On August 13th the regular Monday night crowd at “the Stone” will be all decked out prom style for the Messed Up Monday’s 5th anniversary.

The Blarney Stone Pub in Clairemont is located behind (back and to the left) the Vons at Balboa & Gennesse. Sure it sounds sketchy, but I assure you it’s worth it.

copy editing anyone?

It's spelled BLARNEY Stone. Not Blanery. Nice try.

Anal retention anyone?

Scott's a douche bag.

Blarney, Blanery, Schmanery

Whatever Scott, obviously you have no idea what anything is spelled like when you're wasted drunk. And that's the only proper state to be in when you're covering a story on an Irish pub, pug, plug, plubery, or whatever phonetically comes out when you're slurring. And while you're copy editing, what kind of sentence is "Not Blanery.". Finally, why should they pay for copy editing when you're here to do it for free?

Blanery Stone Plubery

Sarah for the win!

The Copy Editor on 8/10/2007 12:16:59 PM
